Mortgage Assistance Seminar Helped Homeowners Facing Foreclosure

by: manderson Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Representative Williams and state Senator Rob Kane provided information to residents of Watertown and surrounding communities who attended their September 22nd mortgage assistance seminar at Swift Middle School. “Connecticut’s economy has not improved significantly over the past year and a half, unemployment has risen above 8 percent again, and with Pratt & Whitney poised to close its East Hartford and Cheshire plants and lay off 1,000 employees, we’re likely to see more people falling behind on their mortgage payments and facing foreclosure in the months ahead,” Rep. Williams said.

“We discussed several new programs during our seminar that were enacted during the 2009 legislative session to help homeowners threatened with foreclosure restructure their loans and stay current on their mortgage payments. If you were unable to attend our seminar and would like to learn more about how the state can help if you are in danger of losing your home, please send me an e-mail requesting the information at sean.williams@cga.ct.gov or call my office at 1-800-842-1423,”  Rep. Williams said

“I believe that everyone who joined us found the event helpful and informative. Our guest speakers were excellent, and many of those who attended thanked Sean and I for holding the seminar.  However, we understand that there are probably many interested people who were not able to attend. Please, do not hesitate to contact us if you need the information provided at the seminar. I can be reached at my legislative office in Hartford at 1-800-842-1421, or via e-mail to Rob.Kane@cga.ct.gov,” said Senator Kane, R-32nd District

Mortgage experts provided information and answered questions about new state laws and available assistance programs, including the Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program (EMAP) and the Connecticut Fair Alternative Mortgage Lending Initiative and Education Services Program (CT FAMLIES) which are administered by the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA).
